The W203 generation was one of the last Mercedes to still take a double din style head unit with relative simplicity. Most of these were not amplified systems and didn't need expensive fiber optic modules. They all had basic steering controls and still need CANBUS modules but the install cost is still reasonably affordable. As you can see from the picture below, the factory radio was falling apart and left a lot to be desired. The display appears to have started deteriorating and the head unit only offers a basic radio and CD player function.
Our customer wanted a radio capable of doing basic navigation and to support handsfree calling. We went with a Sony XAV-AX1000 Apple CarPlay double din head unit and Crux data module for the installation and steering retention. This way, he gets navigation through Apple CarPlay on apps like Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps, and more! The 6.2" touchscreen also feels a lot more modern and can support a backup camera if he chooses to add one in the future.
