The MK6 generation VW Golf/GTI was the last to have a relatively simple windshield with no fancy safety modules. For that reason it's a bit of a free for all as far as where to mount the front dash cam. We installed the sleek and low-profile Thinkware Q800 Pro 2CH dash cam which has a 2K front camera and 1080P rear camera.
For the rear dash cam, we can choose to attach it to the plastic panel by the headliner, or like we did here, on the hatchback glass itself. Mounting it to the glass will give a better view as it is further back in the car which reduces blindspots. It also means that when carrying larger luggage, there's no risk of knocking the camera off. The dash cam is hardwired for parking mode via the driver's side fuse box.
