Toyota 4Runner (6th Gen) Thinkware U3000 2CH Dash Cam

As with previous generations of 4Runner, the 6th generation (2025+) utilizes a vertically sliding rear window which cannot accommodate a rear dash cam properly. Unlike the bigger brothers Lexus GX550 and Toyota Land Cruiser, the 4Runner has an untrimmed upper portion of the hatch so there isn't a solid surface to mount a camera or hide a wire.  The diagram below is of a Toyota Land Cruiser (similar to the Lexus GX) which has a plastic trimmed hatch where we can securely mount a dash cam using adhesive.

We utilize a custom made bracket that attaches using one of the existing headliner clips to hold the camera in place. The downside to this is if you're moving any larger items or camping in the trunk, extra care has to be made not to knock the camera off of the roof. The picture below is of the 6th generation 4Runner and you can see that the only area you might be able to mount to is the flexible rubber weatherstrip of the rear glass. However, there is nowhere to route the wire and the surface is not ideal for adhesive. Hence we must use our custom headliner mount.

For this vehicle we hardwired the Thinkware U3000 2CH dash cam to the fuse box. The fuse box on the 6th gen 4Runner has been moved over to the passenger side as opposed to the driver's side on all previous generation 4Runners. With it's front and rear radar modules, power consumption during parking mode can be significantly reduced. Customers who need less than 6 hours of parking recording can consider a standard hardwire kit. In our experience, the OBD cable does not work with the 4th gen Tacoma and 6th gen 4Runner as it does not switch into parking mode accurately.
