The 2011 (GR/GV) Subaru STI came with one of the worst navigation head units on the market. This Pioneer radio had a detachable portable GPS screen which over time would go bad due to the internal battery failing. Not only is the screen tiny but this unit only supports bluetooth calling but cannot do music streaming. That being said, it's not all bad news as if you have one of these head units, you don't need to purchase a dash kit, steering control module, wiring harness, or antenna adapter to install a new double din! These cars come with a Pac-Audio steering wheel control interface that can be programmed to work with other aftermarket radios.
Our customer wanted a great sounding head unit with a good screen that would look clean in his car. The Sony XAV-AX7000 ticked all the boxes by offering a high-powered amp to power the Pioneer speakers in this car. It also adds Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Video playback through USB which was great for his daughter. Not only that, but our customer brought us a Pioneer TS-WX70DA powered shallow sub enclosure as well to install in the trunk. These are lower powered units (100W RMS) that only need power off of the fuse box or perhaps even a cigarette lighter to work. The low height of this subwoofer makes it an easy fit in a lot of vehicles, including this customer's previous Fiat 500 Abarth.
We also installed a Crux CUL-16 drill-in type back up camera. We've installed many of these cameras before and love their sharpness, wide angle view, and factory look. Overall the upgrades to this STI help keep it relevant with the newer VA generation STI which runs the same EJ257 drivetrain!
