Subaru makes some of the most popular crossovers but from an infotainment perspective, many find the factory system lacking. This 2010 Forester owner came in to our store looking for something that looks better, sounds better, and offers better convenience features. We ended up opting for the Sony XAV-AX5000 for it's attractive modern design, excellent touchscreen, and great pricepoint for an Android Auto capable receiver.
On this generation Forester and Impreza, there is a pocked just below the climate controls where we were able to run the dual USB ports for the Sony receiver. With the dual USB ports, the primary one is for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, but the second one could be used for USB media storage. This means you could load movies and songs onto a thumb drive and play them on the clear 7" capacitive screen.
Another practical use for the screen is to add a backup camera for parking purposes. Given the higher ride height of these vehicles, things that are low down by the bumper may be difficult to see, making a backup cam a great idea. Our customer also opted with the iDatalink Maestro SW to retain the functions of his factory steering wheel controls.
