We installed this Pioneer DMH-1500NEX on this 997 generation Porsche Carrera 4S. As with just about every Porsche 997, this car runs a fibre optic system that ties in with the factory navigation drive, CD changer, and Bose amplifier. This system is complicated to work with and the module to retain the amplifier is actually more expensive than the head unit itself in this case.
The head unit adds bluetooth phone calling and music streaming, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The large 7" screen is also perfect for the backup camera which we installed using a license plate frame camera. This type of camera means that we don't need to drill any new holes on this gorgeous 911.
This particular car had the Sport Chrono Package which has some special displays from the factory radio that cannot be retained. However, the Porsche Sport Chrono system remains one of the hardest to use lap timers out there and most drivers never actually use it. The stopwatch can still be controlled by the stalk near the steering column and multifunction gauge behind the steering wheel.
Our customer was having a battery drain issue so we removed multiple pieces from his car including an aftermarket bluetooth module and the factory navigation and CD changer. One benefit to this is that he gains a bit more front cargo capacity without the big CD changer cartridge.
