A friend of our shop came in to get a head unit and alarm installed for his Skyline R32 GTR. We installed a Kenwood DNX575S into this GTR as it ticks every box for our client:
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility
- Bluetooth connectivity
- Built-in GPS navigation (with Garmin maps)
- Micro SD slot for media and updates
- DVD playback (with video in motion bypass)
- 6.8" touchscreen with video input and output
- Backup camera support
The sound quality from this head unit is excellent so we went ahead and upgraded the speakers as well. The rear deck takes a 6.5" speaker which we replaced with an Alpine S-Series coaxial. These spacers have a large magnet and deliver excellent bass performance while the silk dome tweeters balance things out with great clarity. The door speakers are unique as they take a 4x6" size which is rare in North America. They can be converted to 6.5" speakers with some modification but manufacturers like Kicker and Infinity do make replacement speakers in this size.
Our customer also wanted to add keyless entry, alarm, and hood pins to this car for added security. Being a rare and desirable model in Canada, security is of utmost importance but many of these Japanese imports do not come with much in that department. We installed a Compustar ALARM IT system which has a shock sensor, siren, and hood pin trigger. We paired this with the Compustar Prime T9 remote for 2-way alerts and status. The range on this remote isn't quite as impressive as the Compustar PRO remotes but is still excellent at about 1 kilometer.
