Nissan Altima Sony Double Din and Subwoofer Install

Even newer cars like this 2018 Nissan Altima can benefit from an aftermarket radio replacement. This base model S trim car had a factory backup camera displayed on a small 4.3" screen. Our customer brought us this Sony XAV-AX3000 to install along with an amp and subwoofer combo in the trunk. The AX3000 lacks the capacitive screen, dual USB, and a few other features to position it below the XAV-AX5000 in Sony's lineup. This head unit supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, something not available with the standard radio on this Altima.

For installation, Metra makes a variety of parts to retain all the features and fit an aftermarket double din in this newer vehicle. The backup camera and steering controls are retained by the use of Axxess interface harnesses and ASWC-1 modules. With the provided harness, the backup camera is displayed on a 7" screen rather than the small 4.3" factory screen, making it much easier to see. Axxess also makes a mini USB adapter that can be used to retain the factory USB port, otherwise the factory aux and USB inputs will no longer function.

While an amplifier and subwoofer can be installed with the factory system, using an aftermarket stereo like the Sony double din gives the user the ability to adjust subwoofer gain and crossover through the touchscreen interface. It's important to note that most Sony head units use a 1CH subwoofer output so it's good to have a 2 female to 1 male RCA adapter when connecting to an amplifier.
