This 2015 Jeep Patriot North Edition came in with a very basic CD player option which our customer did not find adequate for his road trip from Vancouver to Ottawa. He wanted navigation options but to also stay within a budget as well. We installed the Sony XAV-AX1000 which is one of the most affordable Apple CarPlay head units on the market. We installed this with a Crux canbus module which offers accessory, reverse, and illumination outputs that are needed on these later model FCA vehicles.
This vehicle didn't have steering controls so we saved a bit of money in that department as no steering module is needed. The AX1000 is nice as it offers a rotary volume knob so he can still conveniently adjust volume and control Siri without looking for small buttons on the deck. The matte black design also blends in on this car and doesn't look too outrageous and aftermarket to the point where it may attract thieves.
As a platform, this now offers a great basis for other upgrades like amps, speakers, and a backup camera. The Sony XAV-AX1000 is also Sirius ready which is great for a roadtrip vehicle as satellite radio will give the customer the same stations all across Canada, even in areas with no cell reception.
