Late model Honda Accords like our customer's 2014 come loaded with standard bluetooth, backup camera, steering wheel controls, and even a unique LaneWatch camera. That being said, the factory receiver did not support navigation so we went about finding a solution for our customer while retaining the existing tech features.
Axxess and Metra make a special dash kit that is designed to fit a double din receiver while retaining the Lanewatch function. Additionally, the ASWC-1 module from Axxess retains use of all the steering wheel controls for operating the trip computer as well as the aftermarket receiver! Here you can see the Sony XAV-AX5000 mounted in the Metra dash kit for a clean and factory look. The colour matches the factory pieces perfectly and the fit is second to none.
With the Sony XAV-AX5000, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported so navigation features are available without traditional GPS antennas and preloaded maps. Preloaded maps are available for this deck through a TomTom module, however for many drivers Google Maps is sufficient and offers a more user-friendly UI.
Here you can see the Axxess module retaining the function of the Lanewatch camera which assists with blind spots on the large sedan. The top screen on the Accord is not as bright or clear as the XAV-AX5000 but there is no option to output this image on the aftermarket deck at the moment. The same module from Axxess/Metra also retains the factory back up camera.
From a car audio perspective, this Sony deck will offer better sound processing than the factory unit. Furthermore, the preamp outputs are perfect for upgrades such as amplifiers, subwoofers, and speakers down the road. Metra also makes speaker adapters and wiring harnesses for the Accord that make speaker upgrades a breeze.
