Classic Honda Civic Sound System Refresh

Our client was given this very clean and well-taken-care-of 1988 Honda Civic by a close friend and wanted to update the sound system. The old setup consisted of a Clarion cassette deck, and AudioVox/Sentrek speakers from the early 90's. To replace this, we opted for the Kenwood KDC-BTC372U CD/Bluetooth receiver and JVC DRVN series speakers. He also opted for the Sirius XM tuner which lets our client listen to exclusive satellite radio stations.

The JVC DRVN series speakers use a carbon mica cone and have 1" tweeters on the coaxial setups. They can take up to 50W RMS but are best matched to standard deck installs without an amp. These speakers were a good option given the budget and size restrictions of the relatively thin doors. When paired with the Kenwood deck, this system is sufficient to fill the small car with crystal clear sound.

In terms of fine tuning the audio, the Kenwood single din receivers offer an amazing upgrade beyond just about any factory audio system. Features like time alignment, 13 band EQ, and advanced sound processing to reconstruct music files. The addition of digital media options like bluetooth and USB means that high resolution files can be played for even better sound quality. Not only that but the bluetooth mic adds a level of convenience and safety making the upgrade well worth the investment!
