3rd Generation Rav4 Thinkware Q800 Pro Install

This single owner RAV4 has been hit multiple times so our customer opted to invest in a dash cam system to catch potential hit and runs in the future. Due to the swinging tailgate of this generation Rav4, installation is a bit more complicated and labour intensive. We went with the Thinkware Q800 Pro dash cam which offers 2K recording and 1080P rear recording. This is a fully loaded camera with WiFi, GPS, Cloud, and Sony STARVIS CMOS sensors.

The proper way to install a dash cam in this vehicle is to run the rear camera wire through the trunk grommet and taking the trim off of the trunk to hide the wires. Some might opt to simply stick the rear camera on the headliner for a simpler install but this has a few issues. Firstly, because of the large spare tire cover on the back of this Rav4, you want to mount the camera as far back as possible to see over the cover. Secondly, these are utility vehicles that people often move larger items in, and mounting a rear camera on the headliner makes it more vulnerable to getting knocked off and damaged when loading or unloading the trunk. Since the tailgate swings out of the way, if the rear camera is mounted on the glass, it will not be damaged when using the trunk.
